Dear Pop Music

• 2013-04-15

  Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr. - “Hiding”  The indie pop is strong with this one.  It feels really upbeat and light.  It just has the feeling of fun and pop.  I just imagine random things happening like a person in a buzz lightyear suit coming to me in the library and starting to dance.  Then everyone dressing up as famous characters would come out and dance with him.  With glitter everywhere.  You can’t go wrong with glitter.

  SomeKindaWonderful - “Reverse”  This slow moving pop song is just like a drama.  I imagine a fight starting this whole story.  Then when the singer says in reverse, I think of the fight going backwards and into where they were making out before the fight.  The song has so much power.  It is so demanding, and I feel the desire for a second chance.  Then in the middle there is a part where it is just the guitar and the singer.  It is so vulnerable and beautiful.

  Ghost Loft - “So High”  I just feel so relaxed with this song.  I don’t feel like doing any of the work that I have to do right now.  Emails to send, homework to do.  They can all be done later.  I just want to take a nap on a sunny day.  And dream.  This song goes so quickly that you would want to listen to it once again.

  Carousel – “Another Day”  Synths.  Pop.  What a tune.  Another catchy song for your ear.  I am on a roll today with several songs.  I am in a creative writing class, so I am going to try something different and write something that is related to the song.  Eh.  Too much work. I am just going to create a scenario instead like my other posts.  I think of online dating.  They are having a conversation via chat but they never met face to face.  They are laughing, they are telling each other stories that eve their best friends don’t know.  And finally they decide to meet, and this song is where it starts.

  Mikal Cronin – “Weight”  This song feels so uplifting.  It is really catchy.  I am bouncing my head from shoulder to shoulder while listening to this.  I really like it when all the music stops so you can only hear the very soft vocals like whispers.  Also, the ending, when it slows down is really nice.

  Ajimal – “This Human Joy”  This slow moving song is with a piano and the harp is so great.  I just imagine snow falling down and then it melts right on your hand.  It is spring break for me, and yet it is cloudy and snowy here.  I am just staying indoors and watching the snow fall.  It is a really pretty song.

  Fryars - “On Your Own”  This moving song is just so touching.  A need to learn to be lonely.  His voice is so amazing, and yet I am questioning if it is autotuned just a little bit. I think it is, but oh well.  It is an amazing song and video to check out.

  Rilo Kiley - “Let Me Back In”  Is it country?  Is it folk?  No, it is something different.  This is a great way for me to start me weekend in the spring sun.  It is very fun and nice video and song.  It just brightens up my day, and makes me smile.  My favorite part is when they clap.  Sweet song to check out.

  Dana Williams - “Keep Me Waiting”  This slow beat song is so sweet.  For some reason I expect it to go dirty and drop a beat, but it doesn’t.  I also expect it to be longer.  It is such a tease, but a wonderful tease.  I am excited to hear more from the artist.

• 2013-03-15

  Har Mar Superstar - ”Lady, You Shot Me”  This song is a breath of fresh air.  With a vibe that sets me back in time were jazz was cool, and everyone is wearing suits or dresses.  I imagine everything black and white, and this song comes on.  Check out the song.  You will feel refreshed.

  K.Flay - “The Cops”  This song is slow and yet catchy at the same time.  Especially when the cops come calling.  It is very dark, and outside is too bright for this song.  I imagine a cloudy day with rain, and then a black out happens.  The only thing that will bright up the room would be the lightning from outside.  Really nice song.  Check it out

  Pacific Air – “Lose My Mind”  Very bouncy track.  Feels like I am jumping on clouds like a trampoline and I don’t care about the world below.  After hearing this song, I think I did lose my mind to the catchy tune and head swaying.

  Wonda - “When The Drums Come In At 2:08”  Oh wow.  The video really complements the video.  The clapping and steady beat makes me wonder how the drums come at 2:08.  It was done really well with the countdown, and I think the wait was worth it.  Check it out.

  Pacific Air - “Float”  I feel like this is one of those songs that you just want to throw all your papers in the air and see them fall in slow motion.  It has such a carefree feeling that makes me want to relax in the sun.  The video is done very well to match the mood of the song.  I think the whistling would be create for some commercial or something.

• 2013-01-24

  Kodaline - “High Hopes”  Here is another one where the vocals are amazing.  Then the instrumental is done well too with the mini solo towards the end.  It is an uplifting song.  I feel like I have a bunch of balloons, and I just let them go.  Then, we follow where each balloon goes.  I imagine each balloon going to a person who needs it most.  That balloon from a stranger is all that needs to make the person’s day better.
